Last sunday, a colorful adventure

Has it been a year already? Lately I seem to be marking time with facebook memories – the ones that remind you of things you've posted on the same day two or three years ago. Talk about dejavu. Suggesting that certains part of my life hasn't changed? Haha. Other times though it's the yearly events I go to and the albums I create for them. Artfair 2015. And now Artfair 2016. How time flies, and I'm running out of hard drive space!

This year I came with friends M and J. I am quite blessed with friends who like the same shit as I do.

Just as any other time, I come into these situations thinking I will see more than what is. In the end though I feel empty handed, like all I gathered was air. Too many times I am preoccupied with my love of the camera ─ the desire to capture that I forget to really look at something and see.

Or maybe I just needed to have a second look. That works on most things. :3

Forgive me if I don't have the title or name of the artists. I hope somehow these photos will do justice to these amazing works of art.

Another Scale

“BENCAB: Another Scale” at Vargas Museum in January 2016

It's hypnotizing the way a woman's breast curves, this nakedness immortalized on paper. I wonder what it would be like if society has not imprinted in us that such a sight is shameful or embarrasing. When such sight does not evoke lust or sinister thoughts.

I admit I don't have much enthusiasm for other Bencab pieces (matter of preference....*dodges bricks*), not the same way I love his nude drawings. His forms are so natural and beautiful. Now that I think about it, is it my love for Anatomy classes that had me obsessed with the nude form? I remember prowling the halls of the Bencab Museum spending half the time in the Erotica section. haha

More of his familiar work. Retracing our heritage on paper.

The exhibition presents BenCab’s recreation of his installation done in Bandung, Indonesia in 1998 as a result of his collaboration with other Southeast-Asian artists for a workshop on Urbanisation. The installation is a reflection on urbanization and a critique of present-day environmental dilemmas. -UP Vargas

A picture book in space

Now can we pause for a second and regard how much effort I've made to socialize recently? Events where I will see people I know generally scare me, mainly because I am painfully awkward. But I did it. Joined a company party. The end.

It was a cool saturday afternoon and initially spurned on by my cravings for Rodic's (stomach rules!), I decided to map out a few hours of wandering before the company party started. And it's been a while since I went out with my camera. I greatly missed this. It's during these solitary walks that I have a better grasp of who I am and my place in this life.

Eventually, my feet took me to the steps of the Vargas Museum where a few days before, I had seen they exhibited Bencab's recent works. Imagine my surprise to find another exhibit in place. Anima, a thesis of one graduate student from CFA, speaks to the child in all of us – colorful and whimsical. A story told on walls, ceilings and floors instead of paper.

What if it's possible? What is the impact of this experience? As both lover of books and art, I respond well on visuals and I was floored with this exhibit. I loved every part of it. I am still trying to figure out the story part of it, I don't know if it was just me not following it right or I just completely missed it. Haha i guess that is the joyful part of this experience, it's a mystery you keep going back to.

Indeed a pleasant surprise to an otherwise planned and predictable day.

I still feel mesmerized even a month later. Granted that this is the second ballet show I have seen so far, still this will mark as the one I enjoyed the most. Perhaps it is my love for the story as well. Peter Pan never fail to take us back into a time when imagination rules our lives.

Some clips I found:

Can't wait for the next show! (^-^)~
