BIGBANG #concertbreak: A fangirl's account

BIGBANG #concertbreak in Manila | heyladyspring.com

Happenstance maybe or just destiny? Three years ago BIGBANG was in Manila for their Alive tour. That concert I prepared for and obsessed about. I even won a rehearsal pass for my soul-wrenching fangirl post. Haha. The universe though had a different plan for their second world tour. Two days before BIGBANG MADE in Manila I received a message from KitKat PH giving me – what I felt at that time – was the Eiffel Tower of all opportunity! As part of their #ConcertBreak promotion they gave away 2 free tickets to lucky lucky lucky fans on concerts happening in SM MOA Arena. They are sponsors for the whole year of 2015. Imagine my surprise when I found out I don't only get free tickets. I got a VIP pass so we didn't line up (although that is fun but definitely tiring!). We were seated at the KitKat PH lounge right smack in the middle of the stage! We also get our own ladies room about 20 steps from the viewing deck. So if you need a quick dash that will not be a problem. How awesome is that?! Imagine, it's only August, how many more concerts are lined up in the coming months! Join the #concertbreak and enjoy these perks like I did!

Thank you KitkatPH! *sending lots of love* ♥♥♥

Music, as they say, speak to us like a friend but mostly it's our own souls affirming truths we cannot form words for. Emotions demand to be felt if we are to truly master ourselves. Introspection through sounds, waves and words.

This was my June playlist actually. Lately I'm listening to more upbeat songs. A change in perspective I guess. I am at peace with ... everything. ♪( ^-^) Life is good!

Music-wise my world is expanding. I am finding the kind of music I like to listen to without even trying. Thanks to my very cool Tita. "Why don't you have spotify? Download it!" lol

The Taiko Effect at CCP

A few days before the event I wasn't even sure if I was going. I had been quite unmotivated, but God has a way of nudging us so we realize it's time to move. When life gets tough, deliberately get lost in art, music, and culture. Your soul will thank you. So on my usually lazy Sunday, my restless soul went wandering.

The Taiko Effect - CCP

The Taiko Effect - CCP

From the first strum of the Koto; we were transported to a time of old old Japan. Where music is nature and nature is music.

The Koto is a traditional Japanese stringed musical instrument. I've heard it played once before by a UP Diliman Music student, he said the instrument requires a different tuning for every music sheet. So each bridge is moved and tuned. He used a tuning instrument at that time but the player from the Mt. Fuji orchestra did it by ear. すごい です ね! (Amazing right?!) The Koto is usually accompanied by another traditional Japanese instrument, the Shakuhachi (flute).

This is one of the pieces they played during the event: はる の うみ (Haru no Umi) or Spring of Sea.

The Taiko Effect - CCP

After the calming tunes of the Koto and Shakuhachi comes the heart pounding beats of the Taiko. Have you ever been so excited you forgot to breath? It happened to me multiple times throughout the whole night! It's clear that they don't do what theydo just for entertainment or vanity. You can see it their eyes. It's like they're in war and the only way to survive is to beat their drums and practice their craft. This is what fascinates me about Japan and its people, it's their attitude towards their craft. There is one word to describe it: Kodawari: obsessive pursuit for perfection. It goes beyond the simple thought of "I will do my best." It is devoting your whole life and energy to that craft.

The Taiko is commonly used as おまつり (festival) music. Experience it for yourself here, I'm so glad for these videos, I didn't sneak a photo or video because I wanted to experience their music without distraction:

A preview of what's to come! Please watch us at the CCP Main Theater this April 11 & 12 at 8pm.Tickets are still available!(Performance at Banzai: The Great Teppanyaki Theater, MOA)

The Taiko Effect - CCP

There's an ache inside me whenever I think of this night.  It was simply magical. I firmly believe in investing more on experiences and not on material things like food, makeup or clothes. Don't get me wrong. I enjoy pampering myself with such things; but I don't let it be the sole thing that gives me happiness.

The Taiko Effect - CCP

Crossing my fingers they come back here again soon. :)

Music Monday: Calling Eagles

My LSS for the past month.
Angels wings beating in your ear can you hear them calling eagles.

Lee Hi

I confess I'm a little upset about 2NE1's lack of new songs. ( ̄へ ̄) Bom & Minzy are good enough to have solo careers but that's not going to happen anytime soon because YG is currently concentrating on Lee Hi and the new girl group. :/ Taeyang is also scheduled to release an album but I'm not too worried about him. He'll be the main solo artist now that SE7EN is going to enlist in the army. Meanwhile Daesung is concentrating on a Japanese music career. Honestly, I still can't accept this, Σ(゚Д゚|||) why release an album full of cover songs?! Why can't he have a dedicated team of composers like Taeyang & Seungri?! (屮゚Д゚)屮 *huff* *huff* /end rage

Lee Hi new album or single

Back to Lee Hi ... she's getting a lot of good songs!! Though it's hard to argue about this ( ̄◇ ̄)ゞ she has a really good voice. She's still a little stiff when performing but I suspect this back to back solo spot will grind and polish her.

Music Monday: You Set me Free

Origami mobile | heyladyspring.com

You set me free by Angela Miller. She's one of my favorites from American Idol season 12. She doesn't have as big a voice as the other female contestants but she sings with such emotion, it pulls you in. And she knows how to work the stage!

Whether she wins or not, I'm sure she's going to have a career after AI, she already has a style and she can write her own songs.

On another note, another Fil-Am got in! Best of luck to her too :)

BIGBANG Alive Galaxy tour in Manila fanaccount

Long time no post. I'm actually going through a very difficult time now. I wasn't going to come back here for a while but I have responsibilities. I should at least post this one. :)

Last week, October 24, was BIGBANG Alive tour in Manila. Despite what's happening in my life now, I'm happy that I had BIGBANG to ease the pain somehow. I also felt blessed still, who would have known I'd win rehearsal tickets thanks to Nuffnang and Samsung. I don't have any luck in contests so I really think God gave this to me to show me that there's hope. I really want to thank Nuffnang and Samsung and give them all the love but this all I can think of doing.

I wasn't able to take a lot of pictures because there were so many people! There were only 2 booths (Samsung & Jeju Air) but I didn't have time to go to both :( I didn't get the freebies too. *cry* I got there around 1 pm. It was already packed! I bought a BIGBANG lightstick, ate lunch and met with the Nuffnang representative. We got in line for the rehearsals at 3pm but we didn't get inside until around 4pm.

Samsung Makes BIG BANG ALIVE

Wow! It's cliché but it really feels like a dream. I have been a BIGBANG fan for almost 4 years now. I even planned to travel to South Korea at least once to attend one of their concerts because who knew that they will someday be coming here in the Philippines?! Thank you Hallyu wave and to the boys' hard work. Thank you for crossing the sea for me!- *ehem* - I mean your Filipino fans. *laughs*

Seeing photos from the Singapore leg of the tour, it finally hit me that in 3 weeks I will see them perform songs I have only watched on my computer (a billion times). My 1TB BIGBANG hard drive is super happy for me right now. Thank you for serving me well. *clap clap* I'm finally going to see them sing live!!!

Also, thank you to Samsung for making BIGBANG world tour happen. I think it's amazing that BIGBANG's tour concept (humans frozen in time) matched well with Samsung Galaxy SIII. Good call Samsung! BIGBANG is the perfect endorser for your phones! (And CNBLUE endorses Galaxy Note! #fandomcollide)

Check out Samsung's facebook page, they're giving away tickets to the concert and a limited edition BIGBANG Samsung Galaxy SIII back cover. Get it Get it Get it!

SAMSUNG BIG BANG Concert Contest Promo

If I were to choose which Samsung Galaxy SIII color fits each member, I would choose:

Pebble Blue for BIGBANG

BIGBANG Seungri, G-Dragon, Taeyang, T.O.P, Daesung

Like the color blue, BIGBANG is a well liked group by both men and women of various age groups. When G-Dragon's song "That XX" received a Perfect All-Kill despite tagging it a 19+ only song. They have proved that they not only have dedicated fans (called VIP's) but also casual listeners as well.

(Royal) Blue can also represent importance or richness. Just look at the fanclub name! We're called VIP's and we follow Kpop royalty. *Yeah!* They've reached the status where they don't have to guest in various variety programs to maintain popularity; attend music shows to win awards; or promote to achieve overwhelming album sales.

Marble White for Taeyang

BIGBANG Taeyang

I pray that Taeyang do not find this post. *haha* Compared to the other members he seem to be the most innocent. It is a well-known fact that he has never been in a relationship. I guess he's just not the type to jump into one just because he likes a girl. He also doesn't have an extreme lifestyle associated with musicians. He doesn't smoke, rarely drinks or goes clubbing. He prefers to stay in the recording studio, go to church or skateboard. However, he’s not naive nor saint-like. He just lives a “good” life. He has only single-mindlessly worked on his craft for years.

G-Dragon described him as the carrot in the group (i.e. carrot & stick) because he would comfort the other members after GD scolds them.

Amber Brown for Daesung

BIGBANG Daesung

If I have to choose between the members, then maybe I have a little more fondness towards Daesung. Despite his funny image, he is actually very shy. He has a kind and gentle nature. I don't think I've ever seen him angry but as GD said he smiles even when he's angry. This smile that never fades from his face is what pulls people in. Though it's often noted that he doesn't have an idol face, that doesn't stop him from being the most popular member.

He is someone who does his best so he wouldn’t cause trouble to anyone.

Sadly, last year he went through a very difficult time. It was one of those scenarios that seem to come out only in the movies. It's very heartbreaking when bad things happen to good people. I'm happy that he can smile and live his life again. Fighting!

Garnet Red for G-Dragon

BIGBANG G-Dragon

If I want a stand-out gadget, I almost always choose one in Red. It looks expensive and 10x cooler.

I'm pretty sure every VIP will associate the color red with GD. It means strength and power. Wear a color red and you instantly stand out in the crowd which is pretty much what GD has become for South Korea. One of A Kind whether it be about his ideas, music, fashion or lifestyle. Though I think it's taking them a while to understand him. As the saying goes, a nail that sticks out gets hammered pretty badly. He says he knows what they say about him and has learned ways to deal with it.

He has given life to BIGBANG, leading it to where it is now. He burns people’s expectations. He can be overwhelming but that’s the nature of fire. You can try to tame it, it’ll go where it wants to go. Pour water on it and all that will be left is darkness.

Titanium Grey for Seungri

BIGBANG Seungri

I have a love affair with this color. I use it all the time when I'm designing websites. Most of my clothes are various shades of grey. I used to pick out grey gadgets too but it became a popular color among my friends so I'm sticking with red or black.

It is often considered a gloomy color. If asked "what's your favorite color", it's not a very popular choice. Kinda like Seungri. He's a bit different. Very few people see his good points. I get annoyed with him sometimes too because he can be very willful and overconfident. Which is why I think he needs the other members to hold him back a bit. In the end, I remember why he is the way that he is. I remember that he’s not perfect, will make a lot of mistakes (just like me and every person on the planet), will learn from those mistakes, and will continue living his life. Besides, that confidence is also his strong point. Among the members, he's the one who has a lot of optimism and a thick shell for controversy and criticism.

Sapphire Black for T.O.P

BIGBANG T.O.P

There's no other word to describe him except, he's slick cool! Like a model walking out of a magazine.

G-Dragon and T.O.P are alike in many ways. They both share a love for fashion and hiphop music. While GD is fiery and explosive, T.O.P is calm and mysterious. He’s someone who thinks deeply about various things. Out of all the members he's the funniest, emotional, cerebral and secretive. He has often mentioned on interviews that the T.O.P that perform on stage is a character he portrays. He (nor the other members) rarely talk about his personal life. If you read his interviews and rap lyrics, you’ll get an insight on the things he values the most—his music, his character, and his privacy.

Gdragon "That XX" MV + Art by Kildren

G-Dragon is the leader of South Korean group BIGBANG. "That XX" is one of the tracks in his second album. It's about a guy lamenting over the girl he loves who fail to notice him in favor of a cheating boyfriend. GD chose to censor the MV himself (notice the bleeps) and voluntarily tagged his album 19+ because South Korea has an age rating policy for music & MV's. "That XX" is supposed to be "That bastard".

Check out That XX translated lyrics at bigbangupdates.

Music Monday: In Your Arms

It's another Krissy & Ericka song!~seventh track from their Twelve: Fifty One album. I've been playing it non-stop since Tuesday.

In Your Arms by Krissy & Ericka

Keep me sane in your arms tonight
Hold me close that I might not fall
But I know that we might be destined for life
A tragic flaw of mine...
Is running away.

Remember those nights, we stayed up just laughing on the phone
Remember that time you said that "I would never let you go"
Remember that time when I said that we could never ever be
But I know it's a lie because deep down inside
Is a coward

Hiding underneath all the silly games I play
With the batting of lashes and all the charming things I say
I'm an addict to the fact that I could lure you in with just a crack of a smile
But with you I might want to stay a while

Keep me sane in your arms tonight
Hold me close that I might not fall
But I know that we might be destined for life
A tragic flaw of mine...
Is running away.

Running away from what we could have been
I'm losing myself in this game that we're in
I didn't mean to let you in now everything is backfiring

Keep me sane in your arms tonight
Hold me close that I might not fall
But I know that we might be destined for life
A tragic flaw of mine...
Is running away.

Music Monday: The Staves

I found my love for music quite late. Radio and MTV influenced my early music favorites — music from the late 90's — boy bands, girl bands, punk rock & pop music. Luckily, I met two incredible people on the internet (Maan & Rozeh) and they introduced me to new sounds.

Don't worry, you will not read any reviews coming from me. I listen to music without exercising any neurons. *haha*

I am incredibly passive though when it comes to updating my music library. I often discover a new artist while blundering around the internet. Which is why I plan to proactively search at least 1 artist to obsess follow each month. So you see despite my great love for BIGBANG, I do listen to other genre's other than jpop & kpop. *shout out to people asking me if I listen to other songs! ~waves~*

The third genre populating my playlist is contemporary folk music. It uses various acoustic instruments and melodic, melancholic, ethereal vocals. Perhaps it's also a happy coincidence that the lyrics are often poetic. That's also why I have only been sharing one song per post for Music Monday. I felt it necessary to also highlight the beautifully written lyrics.

Folk music is a broad genre (there's folk rock, folk pop, etc.,) so I often describe it as "music you to listen to on a warm Sunday afternoon or on a calm rainy day". *lol yes I forced that to rhyme*

I was going to feature my all-time favorites first but I decided to start with my current obsession: The Staves, a sister trio from Watford England.

Music Monday: Bird of the Summer

I'm starting a new series called Music Monday where I'll share a few favorite songs.

I used to post my music loves on tumblr but lately I find it hard to juggle all my SNS accounts. (^-^;")ゞ pfft So I haven't been to tumblr in I don't know how long.

A sure sign of Spring 1

Bird of the Summer by A Fine Frenzy

You came with the season, as the first swallow sang
A brown headed stranger, with a five-letter name

We planted our kisses where the wild berries grow my feet sprouted wings and I flew all the way home dooodoodoo

My cheeks red like fire engines racing straight to the heat of your skin and I know our days are numbered, early bird of the summer you'll fly south just as the fall begins

The leaves changed their colors and the schoolyards were filled
My coat with the patches barely keeps out the chill dooo

You sent me a postcard from a town out of state, I wish it were warmer and I hope you're the same doopdoodoo

The fields where we wandered were golden
Now only muddy my boots and I know I should recover, you're a bird of the summer, I was wrong to try and capture you

Flight
Flight

Gone is the pale hand of winter
Here is the first flush of may

And soon I will discover whether birds of the summer fly in circles or just fly away

Saranghe BIGBANG

Excuse me for getting sentimental--its 1AM and I really really miss BIGBANG. It's sad that they only just got back after a 2 year hiatus then bad things happen one after another. I really hope they stay strong, they're such an amazing group and they don't deserve all the bad publicity.

VIP's will wait for you. Please stay strong. FOREVER VIP

Watching clips of their concerts....here are a few of my favorite BB songs.

Heaven and Pabo (Fool)...(2010 BIGSHOW concert)

Sunset Glow (w/c they almost always sing at encore) (2010 BIGSHOW concert)
